Everyday Brands We Love

Now we need to look at some classic brands that are often overlooked, but oh-so-important in how we express ourselves in our lives. Who’s ever thought about the incredible branding that has gone into Sharpies and Post-Its?

Well, there’s some pretty cool stuff to say about these everyday tools we use.

Look down any craft aisle, in any business, in any home. Visit a professor or a fellow student and see their beloved Sharpie nestled snugly in their pencil holder. Watch t.v., and you’ll come upon a star signing an autograph, an elegant fine tip Sharpie in her hand. I love their permanency.

Sharpie. You know a brand has hit it big when people use it  to describe any and all markers? Haven’t we all heard someone say “Hand me the Sharpie?” And Sharpie completely deserves it. It’s the best in permanent markers, and worthy of such praise.

My Sharpie has been with me through my personalized school supplies, my letters to Santa, my poster drawings in middle school, my yearbooks, t-shirts signings and now my constant day-to-day college activities. I’ve left my mark on countless boxes through 10 moves to and from my dorm rooms each year. When it came time to find a summer job or internship, my extra fine tip addressed and signed countless notes – even landing me at great companies in great places. For all of these things, I thank Sharpie. I will remain a lifelong fan, for as long as we both shall live (although I think Sharpie will far outlast me).

From the simple, old-school black and white to the new school array of colors. From fat to fine, Sharpie has been a love of many from day one. Recently, I saw mini Sharpies that can attach as a key chain for your on-the-go use. How nifty!

    You know Sharpies have solidified their hold in society when the name Sharpie has become synonymous with permanent marker. When people say Sharpie we think of it as the actual product, not the brand. Band-Aid and Kleenex have also been able to achieve this same task. I don’t forsee any other brand even coming close to Sharpie’s territory.
